Hi Prasanna, your question definitely needs more inputs, and even with that you may get a rough estimation.
1) Is this an OLTP or Datawarehouse DB?
2) How many users will be using *concurrently* your database?
3) How many data (average) every user access at a given time?
4) Do you have all SQLs that will run on this database?
(you'll need that to know data usage habits)
5) most accessed data structures (tables and indexes)
6) "On use" Data window, I'll elaborate on this: you may have 15TB but only use 500Gb frequently, 2Tb rarely and 12.5Tb never... your "on use" data window is 2.5Tb or i.e. data corresponding to 1 calendar year.
OR
You may start small, implement some capacity measurement stats gather and elaborate projections to forecast 2 or 3 years infrastructure growth, specifically RAM and CPU.
What everybody uses? none of them, just throw more hardware everytime you get the roof on mem/cpu usage...nice!!!
