Yeah, that's a start. The reason I mentioned the OCP certification is that it will make sure you cover all the basics needed to do the job.

This site also contain the online documentation. Start by reading the 2-Day DBA manual.
As far as fundamentals are concerned,I suggest you buy the OCP guides and work through these.Even if you don't want to take the exams, they give you are pretty good grounding in DBA work.
